We have not yet updated the Coming Soon page or the catalog itself, but we should have some fresh merchandise arriving in the next few weeks - and at good prices!

We apologize for the lack of updates, but we've been very busy with organizing the next few releases on the First Fallen Star label. Mystified kicks off our Eulogy Series with "Passing Through the Outer Gates," a very mature and deeply personal album that blurs the lines between ambient, experimental, and neo-classical. Not long after, we should be releasing a full-length dark ambient album from up-and-comer Secret Druid Society titled "Restless." And the proverbial cat is out of the godd*mn bag ...

... We're not just releasing Volumes 4 & 6 in Melek-Tha's "H.P. Lovecraft" series... First Fallen Star is releasing the entire series, Volumes 1-6, all 12 CDs, all at once, all together! The standard format will be a 12-disc DVD case, with 16-page booklet, limited to 300 copies (including all copies from the standard and box set editions). The artwork will be completely different from what was produced for the handmade editions of Volumes 1-3 & 5, but we're not ready to divulge any details just yet! There will be a super-limited BOX SET edition that will include 2 bonus CDs, but because we were bored to death with boxes made out of paper, boxes made out of wood, and boxes made out of metal, we decided to hire an artist to sculpt a box set for us, and then cast copies in resin! But we're not giving you any details on that either. Not yet!

We decided to release the entire series as a whole for several reasons, not all of which we're bothering to list here. We didn't want Volumes 4 & 6 (previously unreleased) to stick out from the others if they were released in digipaks, in different quantities than the other volumes were limited to. And whereas the music has not previously been mastered at all, it now will be - all of it. With mastered music and all new artwork, the series is being reborn as a whole. (Incidentally, Volume 2 will now feature Silcharde's "Hate" - a track that did not originally appear on that volume.) And the box set? Well, we wanted an excuse to release a box set format, and we needed the whole series for that. Like we said, we're not giving any details on the box set just yet, but we do encourage you to go to www.FirstFallenStar.com, click on Contact, and then subscribe to that newsletter. We will be taking pre-orders on the box set before it is released! (We will, of course, make sure that there are photographs and full details provided to you before taking pre-orders.) There may or may not be a choice involved in the color of the box set you receive, so you need to stay "in the loop" with us on this project if you are serious about making the purchase. That's why you need to subscribe to the First Fallen Star newsletter as well.

We have received shipments from Hypnos Recordings (USA) and 412 Recordings (UK), and Cyclic Law will be sending Svartsinn's "Elegies for the End" to us in the next few days, but we will not update the catalog again until next week due to Christmas. Tomorrow (12/23) is the last day that we will ship out orders this week! Please have your orders in by 10:00am Central Time if you desperately need your order to be shipped out tomorrow. (Arrival times will vary due to high volumes of mail being handled by the US Postal Service this time of year.)

All 4 albums on First Fallen Star are just $9.99 each (no matter how few you buy), plus postage, through December 31! You can order directly out of the First Fallen Star catalog on that site, or you can order through DMD, but the DMD catalog prices have not been changed (though we will honor the $9.99 price).

Unfortunately, Innfallen's debut album, "Three Days of Darkness," went viral this month. Over the past several days, we have been very busy making sure that file sharing sites, forums, and illegal MP3 shops remove and delete all copies of the album and cease offering it. And yes, we have in fact been extremely successful at getting files and posts taken down! If you're going to illegally download an FFS release because you can't (or refuse to) pay full price for the album, at least send the artists some money - any amount - just to compensate them for their efforts. Contact the artists, ask for their PayPal email address, and send them some money. It's the right thing to do.

In December, Eternal Pride Productions will release a new version of Atomine Elektrine's "Archimetrical Universe" (Raison D'Etre side-project) that has been remixed and had bonus tracks added to it. Also, the vastly popular German site DarkAmbientRadio.de will release V/A: Dark Ambient Radio, Volume 2! (Among other great artists coming up in the genre, Aspectee will be appearing on that compilation!) We will have catalog entries soon, and the merchandise should arrive late December or early January.

In the near future, DMD/FFS will be working with DarkAmbientRadio.de to get releases from both labels onto Amazon.com and Amazon.de! More info soon!

We listed some more items on eBay. Auctions are less frequent than we had hoped only because there are so many other more important things that must be done!

Rukkanor's re-released "Requiem for K-141 Kursk" comes only in a box set edition this time, so it's heavier than most albums and requires extra postage. Please email us to request an invoice. We have only a few copies of this box set, and it will sell out quickly! Act fast!

Aethere and Invercauld are dark ambient, Rukkanor and Sect are martial industrial, and Lord Agheros is dark ambient / black metal / gothic. Normally, we don't dabble in metal or genre-crossovers involving metal, but Lord Agheros' "As a Sin" is the sort of album that dark ambient fans are looking for: utterly gloomy atmospheres, with or without the guitars, with or without vocals! If you're not sure what to expect, we certainly don't expect you to make your decision based solely upon a brief catalog description. But we have kept the price very low to encourage you to try this excellent artist, and we do recommend stopping by his MySpace page to listen to the music and decide for yourself: http://www.myspace.com/lordagheros. "As a Sin" was released on My Kingdom Music (Italy), the same record label that released Crowhead's "Frozen" - an excellent gothic rock album that we do still carry!

Aspectee's "Morben" (ffs003) and Innfallen's "Three Days of Darkness" (ffs004) are due to be shipped from the factory around October 21, so we have tentatively set the release dates as October 31!

The catalog entries on the FFS site include an audio player for each release that features clips of some songs for your previewing pleasure! Clips for Dense Vision Shrine and Karsten Hamre were added not too long ago, and we will soon add clips for Aspectee and Innfallen! So if you haven't picked up the Dense Vision Shrine and Karsten Hamre albums yet, stop by and listen to a few tracks! Yes, after 7 weeks, we received our shipment from Eternal Pride Productions (Russia), which includes A Challenge of Honour, Aghast, and Desiderii Marginis (above). The delay was not their fault. Customs here in the USA likely detained the package - since they like to do that. Unfortunately, the copies of Vargr's album had the same defect as the copies we obtained from Possession Productions earlier this year - spots all over the discs! So that album is not available for sale yet. We hope to get some good copies, but the problem was likely so widespread that everyone was affected - everyone who stocked that album in their distro catalog, that is.

We have extremely limited copies of Stroszek's contribution to the H.P. Lovecraft Tribute Series on God Is Myth Records. Limited to 100 copies, this volume sold out almost immediately. "The Wild Hunt" is more along the lines of acoustic/folk than metal (and certainly not dark ambient or any form of electronic music). We're not holding copies for anyone, so either you buy it or you miss out, but we're not playing the "hold this for me and I'll buy it in a month" game. (That's always the last thing we hear from someone who never shops with us again.)

The albums by AKLO and side-project Tillinghast Laboratories Incorporated are not well known, but the music was surprisingly good! (Not all new/unknown projects are bad, ya know!) In First Fallen Star news, Innfallen's "Three Days of Darkness" has been briefly delayed while we deal with the artwork, and Aspectee's "Morben" will be sent to the factory first thing this coming week! We are still accepting demos/submissions, but please PLEASE note that the genres should be dark ambient / experimental. ("Experimental" does not mean noise! And 30 minutes of completely random technoid sound effects, with fractal album artwork created using the free paintbrush program on Windows95, does not constitute an album that is thematically and aurally cohesive! Yes, we are trying to be funny, not rude, but the point remains.) We do really enjoy listening to unknown/new projects - and we certainly are not limiting our releases to well-known projects - but we are very picky, with good reason. Economically, right now is the worst possible time to be spending thousands upon thousands of dollars on projects that have not matured enough yet. Oversize items are box sets, t-shirts (or anything including a t-shirt), and any item/release containing 3+ discs! Lovecraft, Opus 4" has been delayed indefinitely. While progress on Opus 6 (with Xa-Mul) moves forward, we are re-thinking the remainder of the series. Unless otherwise decided in the future, our label - First Fallen Star - will release the remainder of the volumes in the series! We are now obtaining this album directly from Eternal Pride Productions and they have assured us that their discs are not damaged. Dark Music Domain does not EVER knowingly sell damaged items to customers. If you ever receive an item obviously damaged prior to shipping, please contact us for refund or replacement immediately.

The recent singles from Rabia Sorda and Solitary Experiments have arrived, along with Kinetik Festival DVD, Vol.1. (We thought it was Vol.2, but we received Vol.1. Still highly recommended though!) Those will be available early next week.

Up-and-coming ambient/dark ambient project A Child's First Funeral has posted another excerpt from recent work, and it's well worth a listen. In addition to several other clips and full tracks, "No Mistakes Are Ever Made" (excerpt) is further proof that this project will surely be quite popular among fans of the genre! It remains our hope that a debut album from A Child's First Funeral will see the light of day on the First Fallen Star label in late 2009 or early 2010.

For those of you who do visit the DMD site but inexplicably refuse to sign up for the newsletter, know that the first two releases on First Fallen Star - Dense Vision Shrine's "Time Lost in Oblivion" and Karsten Hamre's "Through the Eyes of a Stranger" - are both at the factory right now! Both feature Karsten's own photography and artwork, and are packaged in DVD cases. Both albums are limited to 1,000 copies, with the first 500 copies of each including a bonus DVD of imagery used by Karsten in live performances. Melek-Tha / AEP's "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 4: The Shadow Over Innsmouth" has been delayed indefinitely as a recent computer crash has set back AEP's contributions to the collaborative album. The FFS site is still under construction.

Thanks to Joe for letting us know that the audio clips for Olhon's "Underwater Passage" were broken. We have now fixed those!

The standard 2CD version of Melek-Tha and Nazxul's "Left Hand Path" should be arriving in the next few weeks. The box set version will follow soon after, but we do not know when. Although the music is complete, some of the goodies for the box set are still in transit to the artist.

We're going to put some more items up for auction on eBay quite soon! We never did finish our "spring cleaning," so we're itching to get rid of some items. Expect very low opening bids!

Karsten Hamre's "Through the Eyes of a Stranger" and Dense Vision Shrine's "Time Lost in Oblivion" should be going to the press this month. Barring any absurd press & print delays, those two releases on First Fallen Star should be available in July.

Releases from Darkened Soul, Rasalhague, and Melek-Tha have arrived, but we are sorting through the merchandise and preparing audio clips. Not all of Melek-Tha's releases have arrived; we are still waiting on "Left Hand Path" (standard version and box set version). Others from Melek-Tha have not been released yet.

The First Fallen Star website is still under construction. We are still waiting to tie up loose ends with all 3 pending releases on the FFS label. All 3 should be released this summer.

Please note that we do not have any copies of Selaxon Lutberg & Subinterior's "Winter Meeting," but we do have the other 3 releases in the series ("Fall Meeting" is the last). The BOX SET version of Nordvargr's "Untitled Navigations I" was not made available to retailers at a wholesale price (we paid regular retail price to obtain them), so the few copies we were allowed to purchase are probably more expensive than the record label's copies. Feel free to order from Beast of Prey (Poland) while their stock remains. (Also note that Nordvargr has apparently released "Interstellar 2" as a torrent-only free download. The download includes the original "Interstellar" album as well!)

We have also updated the "Coming Soon" page to include expected shipments from Cold Meat Industry, Old Europa Cafe, Cyclic Law, and others! We are waiting to purchase from Cyclic Law until other pending releases come out (Allseits, Svartsinn, etc), but we will have those releases.

After healing from his injuries, Melek-Tha has begun shipping some of the incoming merchandise. We should have most of those releases listed by the first or second week of June. "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 4: The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (Melek-Tha & A.E.P.) is still planned to be released on our label division, First Fallen Star. No tentative release date at this time. Hopefully, sometime this summer. (Fans of the series should note that Opus 6 is strictly in the planning stages at this time, though it will probably be the final volume in the series.) Although Melek-Tha had done a fantastic job with the previous volumes in this very popular series, problems with CD-Rs were periodically encountered, so he wanted any future volumes to be professionally printed. Given how extremely limited most Melek-Tha albums are, it is unlikely that many will be professionally printed, but Melek-Tha promises to replace any defective discs you may have received! Email Melek-Tha or Dark Music Domain to request replacements for defective discs. (Defects were rare but did happen.)

Yes, we are a little bit behind in cataloging what's coming in, but orders are still getting shipped out within 1-2 days of receiving payment! Please note that there was no wholesale price offered to retailers on the Nordvargr box set, so we paid regular retail price to get it and could only obtain a few copies. Feel free to order directly from Beast of Prey (Poland) while it's available. Also, you will note that the last group of items is a shipment from Cold Meat Industry. (Hooray!) When searching for Raison D'Etre in our catalog, please just search "raison." Yes, our search engine is picky and won't accept anything complicated like an apostrophe. (We were not able to get Vestigial's "Translucent Communion" from Cold Meat Industry as it has sold out and there is no word on a repress or re-release. We highly recommend buying this album wherever you can find it, but do not forget to pick up "Aeon" and "Solar" before they sell out! This relatively new artist has already proven to be immensely popular among dark ambient / experimental music enthusiasts!!)

Melek-Tha's injuries are healing and he is finishing up Dark Music Domain's order of merchandise, which will be shipped to us soon. He is finishing up work on "The 7 Trumpets of the Apokalypse" and beginning work on a new album, "Via Tenebrae" (2CD), though we have no info on this release yet.

First Fallen Star is experiencing some delays in getting the website up and getting the first releases out. We are hoping to get the Karsten Hamre and Dense Vision Shrine albums out in June. Melek-Tha & AEP's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (HPL, Vol.4) is to be announced. The debut album from A Child's First Funeral will likely be released late this year, if not early 2010. We are not taking on any more projects until we can get the website up and get these first 3 releases out.

Melek-Tha is still healing from his injuries, which has delayed receipt of the new albums listed on the "Coming Soon" page. We wish him a fast recovery!

The First Fallen Star website (www.FirstFallenStar.com) is still under construction and will not be completed for several weeks. We do not have a release schedule, but these three releases are the only ones that are more or less set in stone at this point. Dense Vision Shrine and Karsten Hamre will be released simultaneously (probably in June), with Melek-Tha / AEP's release coming out sometime during the summer. We have also been speaking with ambient / dark ambient project A Child's First Funeral about possible release of a debut album, but that remains up in the air for now. Please note that DVS's "Time Lost in Oblivion" is NOT the same material as the digital release "Lost Time in Oblivion." Also, the DVS and KH DVDs will be in PAL format (no NTSC format version), which is less of a problem for people in NTSC format territories than it was just a few years ago.

When the site is finally up, there will be information available on our first release series - The Eulogy Series - for which we will only accept deadly serious release submissions (in the category of dark ambient).

Melek-Tha is still planning on collaborating with Xa-Mul for "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 6" but no material has yet been recorded for that release. No other concrete information is known about that release at this time.

Melek-Tha has announced a new upcoming album: "Symphony of Sickness" (ltd.100). It will probably be released sometime this summer! In the meantime, work continues on other releases. (We still need to send newsletter subscribers photos of the resin artwork that will adorn the delayed "Left Hand Path" box set!) Melek-Tha and A.E.P. (aka Dapnom) are still working on "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 4" but may seek out a record label for professional printing of their album this time around. ... On a side note, Karna has worked with Melek-Tha on such albums as "Ave Satani" and "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 3." Though the man behind the project has ceased creating under the project name Karna, he continues as Horth, whom you will find alongside Melek-Tha and others on the recent "Voodou" release!! For reasons unrelated to the discontinuation of the project, we will not ever restock the three Karna albums we currently have in the catalog, so we highly recommend that you do not delay in placing your order!

After not having been able to elicit a reply from the Bone Structure label for a few months now, it seems that their MySpace page is the only answer to our questions: the label has closed. Citing the expense of providing artists with their compensatory copies of a release (why is this a surprise to a do-it-yourself record label?) and the cost of working on consignment with distros/labels that did not pay for merchandise upon receipt, all label activities have ceased. As Dark Music Domain did not work with Bone Structure on consignment, choosing instead to pay for merchandise upfront (before it was shipped to us), BS has spiraled down into the depths of Hell, taking our money with them! This calamity, combined with recent frustrations over attempts to get record labels to ship out merchandise in a timely manner (or at least keep us updated when there are excessive delays), has pretty much convinced us that - with the exceptions of a few outstanding record labels and distros - we're better able to support record label activities than the fucking incompetent assholes who run many of these goddamned operations ... rather, run them into the fucking ground, punishing every entity (artists and distros) tied in with them in the process. ... You want 50 or 100 copies of your release made available to avid fans of dark ambient? Fuck it. We'll do it. A spindle of CD-Rs and a stack of artwork from the local photocopy shop - if that's all your operation consists of - does not take that much effort to assemble and ship out. And if half of the copies get sent to e-zines, well, that's just bad business sense on your part. Seriously, though, if you're a dark ambient artist with a good sound, an album, and some artwork, talk to us. (Especially if your proverbially foot was in the door when Bone Structure closed it.) We've been toying with the idea of opening a record label division, and the recent ditch-and-run antics of a few bad eggs in the scene has us pissed off enough to do it! We're not guaranteeing to release everyone's album, but we're looking for something worthwhile to start with. (Pardon the language. We've never published obscenities before, but it felt good to do it.)

The city of St. Louis was quick to clear the roads after our winter storm. (We were hit with sleet and 6-8" of snow.) Shipping will resume tomorrow!

Today, we confirmed an order with Some Place Else (Finland) for Niko Skorpio's new dark ambient/experimental album, "Psilocybe Necrophila" (ltd.418), which is due to be released in late February. And we're attempting to purchase Sigillum Dei's "I'll Keep You in an Oaken Box, With Velvet for Your Bed" (3"CD). (Sigillum Dei is one of the side-projects of dark ambient project Leviathan, which was later abbreviated LVTHN.) ... As you may have guessed, we're picky about what we stock in the catalog. We won't stock just anything, and unlike other retailers, we don't stock a record label's entire inventory of releases. Some artists really are better than others, and we're trying to present you with some of the best albums we can find - some well known, others very obscure!

There will be a catalog update soon. We are creating/updating entries for all incoming Melek-Tha releases (see the previous news entry), as well as creating entries for a handful of releases from the Cold Meat Industry label, which remain unconfirmed. Unfortunately, Vestigial's "Translucent Communion," Raison D'Etre's "Metamorphyses" and "The Luminous Experience," both albums from Sephiroth, and others, remain sold out from the record label itself! We had known that at least one major distributor in the USA could not obtain many CMI releases for most of 2008, and now we know why. We will continue to try to obtain these releases and others until we can actually do so. In the meantime, we will stock/re-stock 5 albums from Atrium Carceri (including the new "Souyan"), Desiderii Marginis' "Seven Sorrows," and perhaps another couple of releases from CMI. Customers are urged to purchase whichever Atrium Carceri albums we actually have in stock immediately, since the price will likely increase once this order from CMI arrives.

We told you before that Melek-Tha had offered a price reduction on some of the relatively older releases that we will be stocking soon, but we had not verified what the differences are. Well, we could only dig up previous prices (before deletion) on 3 of those releases. Compared to the lower prices at which they will be sold at this time around, the savings is $6-7 per release!! For retailers, this is a particularly sluggish time of year. To make the worldwide economic problems worse, many companies waited to make cutbacks and layoffs until after the holidays. January marks a further descent into economic Hell. We know that many of our customers are experiencing personal trials and tribulations that make it difficult to justify purchasing a CD instead of holding onto their money in the event of who-knows-what. We, personally, are experiencing those same hardships as well. As a small music mailorder site, we heavily rely on sales to fund future merchandise purchases. We can't ask you to spend more money. But we would like to ask you to avoid the temptation of downloading music illegally, which inevitably hurts everyone tied to the scene, though people may deny it or shrug off the impact. Also, if you are searching for info on your favorite artist or record label on the internet and happen to come across illegal download links hosted by file-sharing sites, please consider emailing the artist or label to notify them.

We ordered extremely limited quantities of these releases. All but one ("Koroner's Kriminal Kama-Sutra," 2002) were previously carried by Dark Music Domain at some point in time, and some of them have actually been sold out / deleted for a long time. "Asylum of Slaves" is the super limited metal box set version, which includes 3 audio CDs (instead of 2 in the standard version) plus a 4th CD that features one video (not available in the standard version). The artist received one last copy, sent back to him from another music mailorder company, and we will be receiving it.

In other news, we are still in the process of exchanging the copies of Karna's albums that we received. The merchandise arrived damaged. Karna's music runs the gamut from dark ambient to atmospheric metal, and is just plain spooky. Once we receive replacement merchandise, we will make some soundclips available for preview purposes. The artist is relatively obscure but well worth your time and money!

We currently have 51 auctions up on eBay. All were listed in alphabetical order, but in 2 groups. The first group is gothic, industrial, dark ambient, experimental, etc. The second group, believe it or not, is metal: doom metal, funeral doom, dark metal, melodic death metal, and combinations thereof. (At the end of the second group, you find a slightly damaged copy of Lull's "Like a Slow River" - the result of eBay's need to remove at least one listing each time to make a point.) The condition of each item is listed in its respective auction ad, in detail. In cases of damage (3 or 4 items), there are photos of the damage, so that you can carefully assess what the item is worth to you. When an item is damaged, the money is already lost. We have no desire to recoup that money by being dishonest with our customers - many of whom are also repeat buyers on eBay. ... But, as the case usually is, the vast majority of the items (if not all) are in perfect condition or are still sealed. If you want to combine a catalog purchase with an eBay purchase this week, that's not a problem at all! Just email us to let us know what you want to do.

We also received some good news just this morning! Melek-Tha has finally received the songs from Nazxul that are to be featured on the collaborative "Left Hand Path" release. Work is under way on the details of the release, including artwork and the final format of the limited box set edition!

This coming week, we will not be shipping out orders on New Year's Eve (Wed., 12/31) or New Year's Day (Thurs., 1/1). We will resume shipping orders on Friday, January 2.

In January, we will announce our final decisions on charging the cost of shipping inside North America (USA/Can/Mex). The changes will be small. Our primary concern is that, with the repeated increases in postage costs over the years since Dark Music Domain opened, orders of just 1 CD are now prohibitively expensive.

All orders received through tomorrow at 2:00pm Central Time will be shipped in the late afternoon. We will not be shipping out orders on Christmas Eve (Wednesday), but will resume shipping on Friday when the post offices open again.

Also, we neglected to mention in yesterday's newsletter that Melek-Tha is in the planning stages for "H.P. Lovecraft, Opus 6," which will feature Xa-Mul as the collaborator. Melek-Tha and Xa-Mul did an excellent job working together to create the "Alone in the Darkness" release, so we're looking forward to finding what dark madness they have concocted together in the vein of Lovecraft!
